NO to FAST TRACK

I urge you to vote against Fast Track Trade Authority. Fast Track is an anti-democratic mechanism that has led to passage of trade deals that have ignored workers, while providing protection for capital investors. Indeed, Fast Track made it possible for the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Not surprisingly, NAFTA has proven to be a nightmare for workers in all three countries that signed the agreement.

To let your congressmen know how you feel about Fast Track click on the following link to vote NO to Fast Track.

Protect Prevailing Wage Laws

Motion to Table Smith (NH) amendment No. 1844
10/08/1999
Senate Roll Call No. 320
106th Congress, 1st Session

This action killed a back-door ploy to undercut construction wages in locations declared federal disaster areas. The federal Davis-Bacon Act required that workers on any federal project be paid the prevailing wage scale in that area. The effort lost by a 59-40 vote. A vote For the motion was a Right vote. The IAM supported this Legislation.

Republican Senators Jim Bunning and Mitch McConnell voted against this Bill.

Override National Labor Relations Board Funding Cuts

Motion to Table Hutcinson Amdt. No. 1834
10/08/1999
Senate Roll Call No. 300
106th Congress, 1st Session

This was a vote to table, and thus kill, a proposal to weaken the National Labor Relations Board by transferring $25 million to other programs. The motion passed by the thinnest of margins, 50-49. Five Republicans joined all 45 Democratic senators to preserve these funds for this most vital agency. A vote For the motion was a Right vote. The IAM Supported this legislation.

Kentucky Republican Senators Jim Bunning and Mitch McConnell voted against  this Bill.

Save Social Security and Medicare

Conrad Amendment
03/24/1999
Senate Roll Call No. 61
106th Congress, 1st Session

Surplus for Medicare

A unanimous Republican vote killed this effort to reserve a portion of the Social Security surplus to ensure Medicare solvency. Also, it would have blocked efforts to spend Social Security or Medicare funds for any other purpose. It failed by a 54-45 tally, with every Republican senator voting against the proposal. A vote For the measure was a Right vote. The IAM Supported this legislation.

By 45 yeas to 54 nays (Vote No. 61), Conrad Amendment No. 147, to use any Federal budget surplus to save Social Security and Medicare first.

Kentucky Republican Senators Jim Bunning and Mitch McConnell voted against this Bill.
